Dear Prospective Member: As an African-American you undoubtedly know the realities of life for thousands of African- Americans in Rochester.
As a journalist you undoubtedly know the importance of reflecting our community accurately.
The Rochester Association of Black Journalists (RABJ) was founded under the pledge of doing what we can to improve community relations, increase media accuracy and fairness, and inspire future journalists of color.
Since our founding in 2004 RABJ, and its members, have held journalism workshops for high school and college students; established a scholarship in the name of pioneering Rochester journalist Wyoma Best; sponsored a mayoral candidate debate, and established ongoing mentoring efforts with students in several city schools.
We have participated in numerous career days and community forums, and for several years, hosted a breakfast for journalists from around the world in conjunction with the United Nations.
We remain a trusted source of professional support for dozens of Black journalists in Rochester.
It’s my sincere belief that RABJ can continue to raise the level of journalism in Rochester.
Please join us!
Regards,
Gary McLendon
President RABJ
